South Dakota Wind Energy Association to Hold First Membership Meeting
Pierre, SD- November 18, 2009
The South Dakota Wind Energy Association (SDWEA) will hold its inaugural Membership Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at Kings Inn in Pierre, S.D.
The keynote speaker will be Larry Flowers, principal project leader for the National Wind Technology Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. Flowers will provide a national perspective on the current and future status of wind energy.
“This first annual meeting also sets the stage for South Dakotans to receive a snapshot of what wind development will look like in our state within the next three to five years,” said SDWEA Executive Director Steve Wegman.
Wegman said that investment of wind in South Dakota continues to grow, with over $500 million being invested over the next 18 to 24 months. “Wind farms provide good paying jobs for the rural areas of our state, not only in the construction phase, but also in the repair and maintenance aspects as well,” Wegman said.
Following Flowers’ presentation, representatives from Great River Energy, Western Area Power Administration, LS Power and Green Power Express will be included in a panel discussion regarding transmission.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting adjourning at 3:15 p.m. Cost is $10 before Nov. 25 and $15 after this date. Checks can be made out to: SD Wind Energy Association, 300 East Capitol Pierre, SD 57501. For more information, visit the SDWEA website at “sdwind.org”.
